AUTUMN & WINTER
Enjoy a colourful Törggelen (new wine) evening in good company before the onset of winter.
On the last warm autumn days the wine taverns and country inns open to fans of the year’s new wine. In the Eisack Valley in particular, there are many of these popular “Törggelestuben” (new wine parlours). After a hike or a walk alongside vineyards, old farmsteads and chestnut forests, trying out a few rural dishes is just the ticket. In addition to bacon, Schüttelbrot bread, homemade sausages with cabbage, “Rippelen” (pork ribs), “Surfleisch” (salt meat), “Gerstesuppe” (barley soup) or the traditional dumplings and South Tyrolean ravioli, you should really experience the traditional “Keschtn” (chestnuts) too.
Fun in the snow
Bressanone/Brixen’s local mountain is the two and a half thousand metre-high Plose. In winter the snow transforms the Plose into a skiers’ paradise, with modern lifts, kilometres of pistes of varying degrees of difficulty, rustic ski huts and romantic descents. At 9 km, the “Trametsch” from the summit of the Plose to St. Andrä is the longest downhill run in South Tyrol.
All lifts can be used with a single ski pass.
Nine further ski resorts are located in the immediate vicinity (20 minutes to 1 hour away). And if the weather should decide not to play along, then South Tyrol’s largest adventure pool, Acquarena, with its 25-metre long sports pool, fun pool with current channel and water slides, heated outdoor saltwater pool and the toddler’s pool with slide provides all the variety you could need, as well as peace and relaxation. www.acquarena.com
